Managing Director
Stephen is a highly experienced UK environmental lawyer and entrepreneur. He co-founded the City of London’s Environmental Insurance Market and Argyll Environmental, and specialises in climate law, land contamination and environmental disputes. He has worked as a specialist environmental lawyer for leading commercial law firms including Herbert Smith Freehills, Mills & Reeve, Capital Law and Blake Morgan. He helped Groundsure to launch its award-winning ClimateIndex search. He has also assisted Dye & Durham and Martello with special projects. Stephen chaired UKELA and has led UKELA’s climate change work with the Law Society since 2022.
Commercial Director
Chris has held key roles with every major environmental search provider in the UK, including co-founding Groundsure and Argyll Environmental, leading environmental and commercial teams at Future Climate Info and Landmark, and creating datasets and reports for GeoSmart and Martello. He worked on the UK’s first residential environmental report around 30 years ago. Chris is one of fewer than 200 Specialists in Land Condition (SiLC), and has also worked as a database and GIS engineer - bringing together consulting expertise with automation.
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr Stephen Buss is a consultant hydrogeologist with over twenty years’ professional experience. He advises government agencies, water companies, major consultancies and property developers, with nationally recognised expertise in groundwater resource assessment and modelling, groundwater flood risk assessment, forecasting and mapping, and risk assessment and modelling for contaminated land. At Terra IQ, he supports the scientific robustness and practical interpretation of groundwater- and land-related datasets and outputs for property and professional users.
